Why avocados? Why in Pharr?
For more than a decade, the Pharr International Bridge has moved over 60% of the nation’s fruits and vegetables, with avocados being the most significant – 70% of the avocados consumed in the United States pass through Pharr. That’s a huge impact!
The Avocado Festival was created to honor this impact, marking the start of the produce season each October, and paying tribute to the bridge, the growers, and the fresh foods that connect our region to the entire nation.

A celebration marking the start of a new produce season, honoring the journey fresh produce takes from farm to table and recognizing the growth of the produce industry, followed by a sample tasting event where attendees can enjoy fresh flavors firsthand.
